Travel Photographers' Postcard from Marlow and a Trip Down Memory Lane

One of the loveliest places on the River Thames and one of the prettiest High Streets.

Many years ago we lived there and that's how we remember it......

The question is does it still have it's charm?

Oh yes indeed it does.

Just a snapshot of the High Street today as we have far more important things to think about.

Lunch of course :)

And without further ado I'm going to take Malcolm to a place where I know he will love the food.

We were greeted with a very warm welcome.

Being fresh air fanatics, I'd booked a table outside and today I wasn't entirely sure I'd made the right decision?

However, the heaters were turned up and the contemporary coloured black and white striped blankets were ready on a 'just in case' basis :)

Very cosy indeed.  No need to worry about being cold.

The lovely Aimee was soon at the table announcing she was our waitress for today and asked if we'd like maybe some olives or bread and a drink whilst we chose from the menu.

Yes please!  Having eaten here before I knew only too well that the food would be delicious and we could take some time to choose.

The menus in hand, as I thought, we ummed and ah'd .... it all looked appetising.

The lunch menu was extremely tempting and realistically priced too.

And so the lunch menu it was .......

Now I could go on and on about what we chose and how incredible the food tasted but .......

1.  I don't want to bore you

and

2.  I really don't want to make myself feel hungry 😏

Consequently, images follow:

Gosh after that I think we need a walk along the river.  What?  Oh dear time has run out on the car ......
maybe next time.

Now the question is ....... can you guess who had what?

A huge thank you to the Marlow Bar and Grill for the most amazing lunch, fabulous friendly and professional service and delicious food.

We'll be back for sure.

Until the next time.

When Travel sends you Running for Cover - Visit Marsaxlokk

Just a minute .... we go to Malta for the sun?

What's this?  Looks like rain to me and rain it does!

Run for cover

Well, you'd think we'd run for cover.  One of us did most of the time!

First time in the wet

So for the first time we find ourselves in Marsaxlokk in the wet!

No fish market

We had wanted to revisit when the fish market wasn't in full flow, just to get a taste of this fishing village when there was less going on.  So had organised our holiday schedule to visit on the Sunday for the fish market, but then to go on the Tuesday as well.

There certainly was less going on but probably the rain had something to do with it too.

Ah well, get on with it.  It's just rain and in any case warm rain and we'll soon dry off.

We had booked lunch at Terrone one of our favourite eating places.

A little early so I was persuaded to venture out of my little shelter to get some pics.  Glad I did as wet photos can be as impressive as dry photos so worth getting wet for!
As dark clouds gather above, we go for a stroll.
Ok well that's enough of that!  Time to eat ...
Ooh goodie .... our favourite roasted local sardines on the menu.  Yum.
Oh dear, apparently no sardines.

The cat looks a little full and comfy! Just saying:)

Slight disappointment for us :(

A delivery!  Maybe some fresh sardines?  Nope fresh herbs, nice to see fresh deliveries though.
So we opted, for me, fresh buffalo milk burrata with grilled local peaches, which was delicious.

and for Malcolm the risotto de mare, which he said was good too.
But Terrone, can you please tell us why our favourite dish of all time has disappeared off the menu?
 Terrone Special
Anyway we did the great British thing and sat outside to eat.  Majority of the clientele sat inside!
After all we didn't come to Malta to sit inside did we?

So the moral of the story is, when travel sends you running for cover, go eat and drink!

Travel Photographers Lust for Good Food and Drink in Marsaxlokk

We were booking a return visit to Malta and we knew we just couldn't go back without another Sunday lunch in Marsaxlokk and Terrone.

Book ahead

Remembering just how busy it got particularly on a Sunday with the crowds at the fish market, we thought we ought to email ahead of our trip and book a table.

Last time we were there in November, the weather was beautiful and we sat outside eating, drinking and people watching.  Sounds good doesn't it?

What about the weather

With my positive head on I emailed Terrone asking for a table outside again.  Giedre  responded to my email without delay and booked a table for two.  It was only when Malcolm said 'what if it rains' that I began to doubt the weather!

Another email to Giedre with 'what if the weather is against us?'  This was no problem at all for Giedre, 'leave it to us and we'll decide on the day for you'.  Whew, thank you.

In my head I was already tasting the food .....

Suddenly it was Sunday and we were on our way to Marsaxlokk and my tastebuds were working overtime.  Wishing my life away to lunchtime!
Come on Malcolm it must be time now surely?

'Can you remember what time you booked' Malcolm asked.
'Oh no, I can't'  I said 'let's go and find out'
'Ah' the lovely lady said at the front desk 'we have you booked for 1pm'
it was now 12.30.  'It's ok' she said 'your table is ready anyway'

Bring me sunshine

And my prayers for sunshine were answered and once again we were able to sit outside on a beautiful warm sunny Sunday enjoying the delicious gastronomical delights at Terrone.

Better start with a drink. :)
And watch the world go by ....whilst we order our food
I already know what I want and can't wait ....this is a Terrone special
sprinkled with a little lemon .... this seafood is so good
whilst Malcolm started with ....
Oysters.  He said they were delicious.  I took his word for it.  Not my thing.

And the plate of seafood was a sharing platter so plenty for the two of us.

And anyway I had something else in mind for afters!

Local cheeses, grapes and honey.
Yes, just as I remembered it from last time.  Can't wait to get stuck in to this.
A coffee to finish ... with a little love too!

Life is good here

Travel photographers with a lust for good food and drink and that's just what you get here.

Great service, friendly staff, great food, ice cold beer and rose wine. Now what more could you ask for?
If you want to sample the delights of Terrone, remember to book ahead, especially if it's a Sunday lunch.

Terrone Marsaxlokk  A warm welcome, great service and delicious food.

We'll be back ....
